Etymology

You know in cartoons when someone has to sign on the dotted line and they make an "X"? That's a real life thing. Historically, people who didn't know how to write their own name would use a crisscross -- which comes from "Christ's cross". Originally it wasn't an "X", but an actual cross and people would sign with the Christian cross to promise "to God" to fulfill the contract. Over time, the cross got tipped on it's side and now is an "X".

Today, the word "crisscross" means to cross over and then back (think laces on a shoe).

Notes

Tons of villages, including three big ones. One of them even has diamonds. I found some really nice old-school rock formations -- not the least of which is an epic-sized land bridge.

Etymology

Socrates was a great thinker of Ancient Greece. One of his pupils was Plato. Both men would become famous throughout history as great arguers, thinkers, and speakers.

Notes

Some nice villages in this one, including one that conceals a deep cave system. I also found a cave running parallel to a ravine full of waterfalls. The cave has a "window" of sorts past which the water flows. That was really sweet.

Etymology

The Jacobins (pronounced SHOCK-o-bin) were a radical revolutionary group who brought about the French Revolution. Known amongst their contemporaries as the Society of the Friends of the Constitution, their passion for governmental change infused with their greed for power and resulted in a public hysteria known as the Reign of Terror.

Notes

Well, there's some really cool stuff to see on this one, but my favorite is the triple village -- three villages within visual distance of one another (as evidenced by the photo above). Also, there's a really neat hill that is just honeycombed by tunnels.
